Flax-White Bread

It's a habit now to make a small batch of dough once or twice a week. Bit of a devotion to fresh flatbread, or warm cinnamon rolls...you know. ^^

Baba Ghanoush

I made Baba Ghanoush for the second time in a week, and this time used the recipe here. Yes, that is yakinori keeping the Baba Ghanoush from seeping out of the holes in the dish. I'm hoping it doesn't affect the taste too much before it's all gone! ^^

Lime-Garlic Chicken

Flipping through the cookbook Middle Eastern Cooking by Suzy Benghiat, I came across a recipe for chicken wings (on page 28, if you have it) with lime and garlic, two ingredients I'm crazy for. Rather religious about garlic. I wanted to cook a whole chicken to have leftovers...so I did. I put like 13 cloves of garlic in it, a lot of lime juice, some chili flakes, cumin, salt, and black pepper today because I couldn't help myself. Something about grinding the pepper makes me feel happy.

Carrot!

The food blog I am the most fond of is Desert Candy حلويات الصحراء and I just tried a recipe today - a carrot salad. Whoa. It is delicious. I ate two-thirds of it, which is great because I need to up my intake of vegetables a lot. There are times I get on vegetable kicks, like eggplant or sweet pepper. I consume much tomato. It keeps me alive.

Raspberry-Apple Crumble

Like I said, I've been making a lot of very similar dishes over & over. I'm going to try, though, else this food photoblog is going to be especially boring. The overall purpose is still to print off the whole blog after a while to bring to my lovely grandma so she can have proof her granddaughter can totally take care of herself. ^_~

The crumble topping is made according to how my paternal grandmother's always made it - 1/2 cup butter + 1/2 cup sugar + 1/2 cup white flour + 1/2 cup oatmeal. I add spice to the topping, and I think I'm going to use whole wheat flour from now on...

Non-Specific Flatbread

Egg, Onion, & Soy Sauce

This is more than simple, my family loves it. Eggs cooked thinly in a pan (supposed to be little rounds, but I didn't here) with fried onion that had soy sauce added to it. Eggs + soy sauce = meant to be!

I keep craving the same things over & over these days: avocado, fruit crisps, egg, onion, dal...etctera! To have anything different to post here means I shall have to make other things. I am one of those people who, in the past, ate pizza 40 days straight. I just put together a breakfast of dal, rice, a whole egg I cooked in the dal, and crispy (packaged) onions on top of it all. So typical of the last week!! ^_^

Onions: You Can Never Have Enough

This is no great feat, but, look! Grandma! I am actually allowed to use the stove outside of your house! These particular onions went onto a brunch sandwich of homemade flatbread, a local maple sausage patty, cheddar cheese, a softly cooked scrambled egg, and the onions. It was great.

Chocolate Macarons (October 1st, 2009)

I'll be posting a few older photos now & then.

Today's Breakfast (February 6th, 2010)

Scrambled eggs with lime-y avocado, bacon, and ful flavoured white beans.

Mom was here for breakfast this morning. She had cereal in the morning all week, so something else was in order.

Apple Crisp (February 5th, 2010)

Darling Grandma of pearls, pink roses, and navy & white seaside clothes:

I know you believe I need taking care of. Every week you worry on the phone to me that I haven't got enough food in the freezer, fridge, cupboards & counters. You're always so surprised when you ask what I've been up to, and the answer is currying shrimp, rolling out handmade pasta dough, or baking raisin-cinnamon bread. I want you to know I really, truly do cook & bake and I maybe (??) can take care of myself (!!). Love you. :)
